As a fourth generation winegrape grower with a progressive spirit, Richard Lauchland established Duas Terras Vineyard. His goals were to apply lessons learned from his experience, to select and produce the best winegrape varietals for the Central Coast, and to offer a custom growing experience for winemakers.
While traveling to many of Europe’s wine regions it became clear the Iberian regions of Spain and Portugal were a perfect match. The vineyard was developed selecting the Great Heritage Iberian varietals (with one detour to Greece). It’s with this knowledge and passion that Duas Terras was created - where the native grapes of the Iberian Peninsula are perfectly produced in the vineyards of Paso Robles.
"Duas Terras will be a vineyard that winemakers will be drooling over...

Richard is a grape grower with a long family history that began when his great-grandfather planted his first vineyard in Lodi California over 100 years ago. That grape growing tradition continued with his grandfather, his father and now continues with Richard.
After graduating from Cal Poly with a degree in Civil Engineering, Richard ended up right back in the vineyards where he had spent his youth. It took a few short years living and working outside the industry for Richard to appreciate what he didn’t realize in his early years. That the vineyard offers the challenges, the successes, and the satisfaction that bring him joy.
"Upon getting to know Richard, I was impressed by his attention to detail when it comes to farming. His job and passion for Iberian varieties (is) particularly suited to our Mediterranean climate...Richard is growing some interesting varietals in Paso that are worth watching."

One visit to Portugal and certain parts of Spain and you will know why. No place in Europe better mimics the terroir found in California’s Central Coast than that of the Iberian Peninsula. From the cooler, wetter north to the warmer, drier south, to the arid interior, the moderating influence of the Eastern Atlantic makes the region feel like home.
The climate, the soils, the topography - the terroir! I knew the native heritage grapevines of the Iberian Peninsula would feel the same about the California’s Central Coast.
"Duas Terra vineyard was the perfect match for our fine wine label...our '23 Vermentino fruit was top quality, garnering rave reviews and placement on wine lists in several acclaimed restaurants."
